If you don’t want to go read it here is the short version.
1. Don’t have a website :
2. Be completely inactive in the community :
3. Don’t answer your phone :
4. Allow misinformation :
5. Lack clear signage :
6. Have insufficient parking/seating :
7. Ignore Visitors :
8. Respond half-heartedly to inquiries :
9. Be evasive about your beliefs :
10. Lie to me :
This blog/article should be read by every pastor and church marketer everywhere!
For example my wife and I were recently church hunting. And during the course of the hunt we ran across most of these, and we only tried about a half a dozen churches.
We live out in the country, Amish country so the choices within 15 minutes are… Amish, Mennonite, or Presbyterian (which I like btw and went to for a year) and there are a few other little churches here an there. In a google search I could only find one with a website! The phone number for one wasn’t in operation and even though I’ve lived here for 13 years I had never seen a sign for it (turned out to be on main street)
We went to another that was so bad it made every other church look wonderful by comparison, they did the whole be evasive about beliefs, ignore visitors, completely inactive in community etc.
But the end of the story is we found one 
via meeting folks at a super bowl party. They invited us (+ 1) I only remembered part of the name so I googled it and found the church website (+ 2) they had all the info i needed to find their doctrinal statement, directions and parking instructions (+3,4,5) we went and followed the signs, then the parking attendants hand motions (I felt like a Boeing 777) the worship was decent the preaching not bad and the people way friendly. We got invited to dinner which was impressive. We never went to the dinner because we were busy so went we went the third Sunday another family invited us to lunch.
anyway that is my story these 10 things are important :-)
