Ethan Recommends

I have been asked many times, “which programs did you use?” or “what did your parents use for history?” and “which program would you if you were to do it over again or with your kids?”

So in no particular order here are the programs and other things I personally reccomend. As with everything else I also strongly recommend doing your own research on the subject prior to making a decision.

Math

Math-U-See, (full disclosure I am the marketing director for Math-U-See) I was one of the first ones to go through the entire program. Then I went on to go to college and managed to graduate. It has served me well and in my humble opinion I think It’s the best Math curriculum on the market. It is a complete, award winning, K-12, hands on, manipulutives based math curriculum.

Science

Apologia Science by Dr. Jay Wile is the best one i’ve seen bar none. Though I never used it myself if/when I get some kids they will definitely use it. Dr. Wile was also a great inlfuence in my journey of critical thinking with his talks/writings about: Y2K, global warming, vaccines, air ionizers, etc.

Writing

If you’ve heard my “Coonskin Cap to College Grad” talk then you know that the two subjects I hated most in school were, English and public speaking (ironic isn’t it?). Anyway I didn’t have a great English program (daily grams) but were I to do it over again I would use the Excellence in Writing program created by Andrew Pudewah.

History

Read books, read lot’s of books! Check out Beautiful Feet’s history through literature program. I also highly recommend Diana Waring’s History Alive program.

Unit Studies

Konos! Used it, loved it, learned a ton from it. I’m guessing it’s changed a bit over the years but I can only assume that it has gotten better.

Public Speaking

Check out the Myers Institute. Jeff Myers excellent leadership curriculum such as, “Secrets of the World Changers,” “Secrets of Great Communicators” and “Secrets of Everyday Leaders.” He also started Passing the Baton ministries and summit ministries both of which are worth looking into.

Misc

Todd Wilson (Family Man Ministries) is one of my favorite homeschool speakers and writers, his message to families is must hear for yours.
